Nestled in the heart of Portland, Maine, Micucci Grocery Co. is much more than your average grocery store – it’s an authentic Italian culinary treasure trove that transports you straight to the vibrant streets of Italy. Located at 45 India St, this family-owned establishment perfectly blends the charm of a traditional Italian market with the warmth of a neighborhood bakery.
Step inside and you’re greeted by rows of carefully curated Italian delicacies — from hard-to-find Sicilian wines to a sumptuous selection of cured meats and finely cut cheeses that promise to elevate any meal. The atmosphere buzzes with a genuine passion for Italian food culture, a sentiment echoed by patrons who treasure both the quality and authenticity of what is offered here.
One of the true highlights, and arguably Micucci’s most talked-about feature, is their Sicilian-style pizza. Hidden away in the rear of the store, this pizza radiates an irresistible charm. Customers rave about the pizza dough, describing it as airy, light, and fluffy—an ethereal texture that melts in your mouth. Coupled with the freshest, most vibrant tomato flavors they’ve experienced on the East Coast, it’s clear this isn’t just any pizza. As Lisa Xiaremba beautifully puts it, “Probably my favorite place in Portland... their pepperoni pizza is a solid 5 stars.” The combination of an impeccably airy crust and fresh ingredients elevates this pizza to a rare level of authenticity and enjoyment.
Beyond the pizza, the store’s bakery produces fresh breads daily that customers find perfect for sandwiches or to accompany any Italian dish. Visitors like James have been delighted by these offerings, appreciating the evident care that goes into each batch of dough and the variety of ready-to-heat options available.
Customers also praise the friendliness and knowledge of the staff. Ray H shared that entering Micucci’s is like stepping into Italy itself, with warm service and rich Italian flavors found in everything from sopressata to pistachio biscotti. The store’s genuine love for Italian heritage is tangible—whether you’re browsing their well-stocked aisles or biting into a slice of their iconic pizza.
Regular patrons are consistently impressed by the range of imported and local products—fresh pasta varieties, Sicilian wines, and other hard-to-find specialties—that keep them coming back time and again. Vicky Dotter’s praise reflects this sentiment perfectly: “Truly the best pizza in Maine so far… variety of pasta and other products was great. Staff so friendly. Thank you.”
Micucci Grocery Co. is an essential stop for anyone craving an authentic slice of Italy right in Portland. Whether you’re indulging in a fluffy slice of Sicilian pizza, shopping for gourmet Italian ingredients, or simply soaking in the warm, inviting ambiance, this hidden gem promises a rich, flavorful experience that resonates with both locals and visitors alike.
Probably my favorite place in Portland :) Such a hidden gem, amazing pizza tucked away in the back of the store. This is what I’m talking about when it comes to a more Sicilian style crust: except the dough is one of the airiest, lightest, fluffiest—and the tomato flavor one of the freshest—I’ve had in the East Coast. Get the pepperoni. 5 stars. Also they have some pretty spectacular local made gelato in the frozen section. And some super awesome snacks & Italian pantry items, wine, ‘nduja…the list goes on.
Entering this place takes you straight to Italy. Very friendly staff and authentic Italian goods. We got wine, sopressata, and pistachios biscotti. Everything was delicious.
Stopped in here while visiting Portland with a friend. Very cool Italian grocery store! Tons of meat and cheeses. Many fresh made ready to heat items as well. Fresh pizza after 11 AM. We weren’t there in time for pizza, but got some fresh bread made with their dough and it made a delicious sandwich!!
Great variety of Italian delicacies. Good selection of hard to find Sicilian wines. The fresh breads, cut cheeses, and meats are all very good. They offer a terrific Sicilian pizza in the rear to either eat in or take away. Worth a visit when in Portland.
Been here years ago, pizza amazing then and now. Truly the best pizza in Maine so far and we tried so many other places. Variety of pasta and other products was great. Staff so friendly. Thank you.
This grocery store specialize in Italian product. They also have fresh Italian pizza and also dessert. I am not a fan of their sfogliatella to be honest, it's my first sfogliatella ever so maybe that's why. I just don't think the light lemony ricotta filling goes well with the generous cinnamon powder on top. But next will try their canoli and I'll tell you how it goes.
What a find! A very generous slice of pizza. For being so thick, it is so airy and light. The dough is the star of the show here. The cheese and seasoning is great too. Will be back for more.
Nice specialty grocery store featuring genuine Italian products imported from Italy.
